Now That You've Chosen A Culinary Arts College,

After doing the research and finding several culinary arts colleges you will want to take your short list along with your criteria and request more information on the colleges. Here is what typically happens when you do.

Culinary arts colleges like other trade schools and colleges have what are called admissions counselors or admissions directors. These individuals are trained to provide you with detailed information about their school. This can be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. If the school is a for-profit career college, their goal is to get and keep as many enrollments as they possibly can. That brings revenue to their school. This in and of itself isn't bad, but what you need to be careful of is checking out their accreditations and their reputation in placing graduates from their programs.

It is a good idea to tour several of the schools if you are serious about the culinary arts field. Don't give in to pressure from the admissions counselors. They oftentimes are paid with a base salary plus commission for every student they bring on board. Make sure their motivation and the schools motivation is to provide you with the best education. Ask for their retention rates and their placement rates. Find out how many of their graduates are now working in the type of facility you would choose. Find out what requirements got them the good jobs. Talk to other students on campus. Talk to a chef or two if possible who has graduated from that particular culinary arts college.

You are going to be spending a lot of your money to attend the culinary arts college of your choice and you want to be sure that the money you are spending will be spent wisely so you can have a successful career in the culinary arts field
